If you remember your teenage years, or are a parent of one, you know the last thing a teenager wants to do is listen to old people. Because usually, we know nothing. And if you were anything like me, sometimes you just did the opposite of what a person of authority said. 🙂
So, when my I met my teenage client for her weight loss program I was hoping she’d be open minded to making the changes she’d need to shed some weight, and improve her tennis game. Lucky for me, working on her training and meal planning was a breeze. Week after week she continued to post steady weight loss, improve her strength, endurance, and agility. She made the entire process truly effortless, by listening, taking her training seriously, cooking and preparing her own meals, and incorporating the changes into her lifestlye.
So, how did this teenage tennis player lose 25 lbs and 3 inches from her waist over the course of her summer break and get back to school with a new figure, game, and healthy habits?
Sumi: How hard was it to switch from the typical teenage diet to the clean eating lifestlye?
Tennis Teen: It was pretty easy up until I had to go out and eat with my friends.
Sumi: What was the biggest adjustment you had to make?
Tennis Teen: Probably portion size.
Sumi: What was the best part about the weight loss? And the best part about strength training?
Tennis Teen: The best part about weight loss was getting lots of new clothes. And the best about strength training was getting rid of my bra bulge.
Sumi: How do you feel your tennis game has improved?
Tennis Teen: I’m quicker on my feet and hold up longer during matches.
Sumi: What sort of advice or tips or strategies do you have for fellow teenagers that might be trying to shed a few pounds?
Tennis Teen: Just because something seems healthy, doesn’t mean that it is or that you can eat a lot of it.
Sumi: How do you plan to continue and maintain your weight during the school year?
Tennis Teen: I’m going to make sure to pack my lunch everyday, so I don’t get stuck eating nothing or cafeteria food. And I’m going to try my hardest…even when the coach isn’t looking in tennis workouts.
And that’s how my clients got her diet and exercise program in check so that she could be one of many teenage weight loss success clients of mine.
