1. What made you decide it was time for a change?
One day I woke up and just realized that I needed to make myself a higher priority. As women, we tend to be nurturers and have a tendency to make sure we meet everyone else’s needs first. I finally got tired of being last on my to-do list and figured it was time to do something about it. At first it felt like I was being a little selfish, but I came to realize that by investing in myself, I can do everything else on my “to-do” list better. If it hadn’t been for my friend Rob introducing me to Sumi and seeing his great results on the program, I would probably still be sitting on the couch eating chips. LOL!!!
2. How do you continue to stay motivated?
I have a great support system and I surround myself with people who support my goals. Also, I keep pictures posted throughout the house of what I want my body to look like when I hit my goal. Both really keep me focused on doing the things I need to do to get results. Additionally, I am buying smaller clothes now and that definitely helps motivate me.
3. And HOW did you survive the holiday season without gaining a pound?
I’m a planner, so knowing that the holidays could be challenging I tweaked a few things. I added in some extra cardio the week before each holiday (and I worked out both Thanksgiving and Christmas morning). I didn’t do second or third helpings either. That was a big change for me. Instead of focusing so much on the food, I focused more on other aspects of the holidays, like enjoying time with family and friends. This program has become a lifestyle change for me so I’m more conscious about the food that I put in my mouth now and how it makes my body feel. I like how it feels when my body is functioning well. Also, I noticed that since I’ve changed my eating habits the things I used toenjoy at the holidays don’t taste the same to me anymore. It’s still good, but I don’t need as much to feel satisfied anymore. LOL! That really surprised me.
4. What is the most significant change you’ve seen in your body?
I can tuck in my shirts now! So happy about that! My tummy is shrinking and I am definitely looking forward to hitting my goal in May and showing it off this summer.
5. Any tips for the newbie who needs to get started?
Change is scary sometimes but can also be very exciting. You have to trust the process. Each week may be different, some weeks you may lose and some weeks you may not. During weeks I may not have seen movement on the scale, I might have seen progress in other areas, like my measurements. That’s ok. You’re shaking things up you’re your body and you have to be patient. Hang in there and persist. This works. If you stick with it you will be so happy with the results.
6. What have you learned about yourself?
I’ve learned that I’m worth it and that I can totally do this. I can get so much more done for everyone else if I just invest the time in me and take care of me first. Doesn’t really get much better than that!
