“Back in 2017 I was carrying about 210 lbs of weight on too short of a frame. My knees were in chronic pain and every morning was at least an hour of dealing with back pain. To be honest, I could feel my body failing and it was a big battle of denial for someone who had always been athletic. It was hard to accept my body not doing what I wanted it to do. Even harder to know that it was mostly my fault.
I had two goals, lose some weight, and get in better shape–at least a shape that wasn’t round.
The first session wasn’t all that intense. I walked in thinking “This should be a piece of cake. I’ve played football, I’ve done martial arts for years. I’ve got this.” At the end of the first session all I remember was trying to walk to my car without my legs giving out and face planting. I also realized two things–I was way more out of shape than I thought, and I was working with someone who knew what they were doing.
So that was the start. At least 40 lbs overweight, couldn’t lift nearly as much as my delusional mind thought, no endurance, bad knees, bad hips and bad feet. High blood pressure requiring me to take daily medication–in short, a mess.
So, here we are 6 years later. I weighed in this morning at 171 lbs. I can bench more than I weigh. I can put on my socks without having to sit down. I wake up without pain. I can go on long walks with my beautiful wife. My cholesterol is down 50 pts. I’m taking half as much blood pressure medicine every other day. I actually have the beginnings of a 6 pack returning–Haven’t seen that in 30 years! I’ve also called you the most horrendous names, cursed you incessantly when day 2 pain hits, I still hate deadlifts and split squats. That being said….
At 58, I’m not as in good a shape as I was at 30, but I’m in twice the shape I was when I was 40.
I owe that to you. You have guided me and motivated me to do better. Your advice on diet and exercise have literally been life changing. I’ve also gained a friend who shares a love of heavy metal music, dark humor and coffee memes. You also set an amazing example of executing at a high level when you demonstrate your ability to compete at power lifting and dominating while doing so. Keep doing what you do. It makes a difference.

“I have been fighting a battle with my cholesterol for over 5 years now. I have been on and off of statin medication, but eventually had to get off of it entirely due to severe muscle pain.
I have always worked out at home on my Total Gym, but lacked the drive and supervision to push myself. I was basically just in maintenance mode. Like they say, if you’re not growing, you’re dying!
I started working out with Sumi in mid December, 2014. Since then (5 months later), my Total Cholesterol has dropped 25%, my Triglycerides have dropped 48%, and my LDL Cholesterol has dropped 29%. All of my numbers are now well within normal range and some of those numbers haven’t been in normal range in years. All of my risk ratios are the lowest they have ever been without a statin…and that goes all the way back to when I was 30 years old!!
Granted, my diet has a lot to do with this as well, but my numbers broke sharply when I started to workout with Sumi.

“I am someone who has been trying to lose weight for a long time. I did the typical, eat what your new boyfriend eats, and I gained 15-20lbs. 5 years later, he asks me to marry him and I still had not managed to shed that weight. I’m a great self-starter but I usually hit a brick wall with my weight loss goals. However, within 6 weeks of training with Sumi, I have already achieved success I have not seen in 4 years. Not only am I losing weight consistently, I am also toning and tightening (what girl doesn’t want that?). I have been a gym rat most of my adult life, always working out but unable to shed the weight. As a competitive, self-motivated, people pleaser having to be accountable not only to myself, but to my trainer, is ideal. It results in this great no excuse kind of environment. Not in a mean scary way, but in a “this is how you reach your goals so let’s do it”, kind of way. I had talked myself out of many workouts and diets because I didn’t really have anyone else to let down but myself. It motivates me to stay on the wagon when I want to get off. Sumi is gentle but firm at the same time; you know she is there to work but with unconditional support of your healthy choices.
I am only at the beginning of reaching my goals and Sumi has helped me achieve goals I have been trying to reach for YEARS, literally YEARS, in weeks.
